COMMENTS:
Chris was born in Camp Kilmer, New Jersey in October of 1946. As the son of a Command Sergeant Major in the Army, he had an opportunity to live in North Carolina, Panama, and Augusta, GA during his childhood and adolescent years.
During a 30 day period in the summer of 1969, Chris graduated from Georgia Southern College with Bachelor Degrees in mathematics and physics, married his sweetheart Glenda, and traveled to Titusville, FL to begin his career as an engineer at NASA. Although he served in many capacities while at Kennedy Space Center, highlights include his roles as the Flow Director for the Discovery Shuttle, Director of Safety & Mission Assurance at KSC and ultimately retiring as the Director of Spaceport Services in 2002. Chris received many accolades during his tenure at NASA including the Silver Snoopy Award, Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medal, Exceptional Service Medal & the Vice President’s Hammer Award for leadership. He was also the recipient of the National Space Club Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
