Cliff Hauenstein was Project Engineer on the crash program to replace the injector on the Lunar Module Ascent (LMA) Engine. The original contractor could not prove that their engine would operate stably and the engine was a single point failure in bringing the astronauts back from the lunar surface. Rocketdyne was given the task of developing a stable engine in time to meet the goal of landing men on the moon before 1970.
