COMMENTS:

Hello my name is John Jancewicz and I would like to introduce myself to the group. I started working at the KSC in late 1968 in time to see Apollo 8 launch. I worked for a subcontractor called Federal Electric Corp. They were the Co that did all of the communications work around the Space center. My main job was taking care of the Operational TV (OTV) cameras on KSC. Anywhere there was a TV monitoring camera I got to explore. Although I only got to work there a little over 2 years I still remember it as one of my best jobs ever. I got to see things up close that very few people had an opportunity to. Some of the nice thing were being inside the VAB. I loved the High Speed glass elevators. I been to the top of the MSS and the LUT and I actually got to look inside the command module. Even more interesting was being inside the mound of the launch pad. I’ve also been inside the firing room and range control, I forget the real name but it’s where they make the decision to abort the mission and push the button to blow it up if necessary. But alas it all came to an end about May of 1971. That’s when they decided to end the program and concentrate on the shuttle program. With the mass layoffs there were stories of people being rocket scientists one day and working at McDonalds the next. But that probably wasn’t completely true. Anyway they offered me a job in Vietnam installing communications in the jungle and I turned them down and was on my way. And like they say “Wow What a Ride”
