Arthur Maloney started work at Industrial Stainless Steel in Cambridge before WWII when stainless steel was a new product.  He took metallurgical classes at MIT and became an expert on heat treating stainless steel.  Following WWII, he became a long hall truck driver operating from Boston.  In 1961 he moved to California and went to work at Rocketdyne division of North American Aviation in maintenance.  When his expertise in stainless steel was recognized he was moved into inspection.  Rocketdyne built most of the United States liquid rocket engines for ballistic missiles and launch vehicles including the Redstone, Jupiter, Thor, Delta, Atlas, Apollo Saturn (F-1 and J-2 engines) Moon Rockets and the Space Shuttle Main Engine.  Art was an inspector for all the engines produced by the company and was one of the key people in achieving the outstanding reliability record of Rocketdyne powered launch vehicles.
