COMMENTS:

Because of my Precision Measurement Equipment training and experience in the US Air Force, I was hired by ITT as an Instrumentation Technician within a few months after leaving the service, August 1972. I worked Kennedy Space Center Complex 39: VAB, fire control rooms, launch pads, crawlers, and mobile launchers during the Apollos 16 and 17 and SKYLABs I thru IV missions.

Things were moving fast at that time. With a quick turnaround between Apollo 16 and 17 Saturn 5’s, and then with faster turnarounds with the Saturn I vehicles in the SKYLAB mission (to provide an immediate rescue vehicle ready on the pad), working 7 days a week 12 hours per day was mandatory.

I have always described the work I performed at KSC as wishing it was the last job I ever had. It was the best.
