Bill Dowdy contributed to the advanced design of the families of launch vehicle programs after joining the von Braun team in the late 1950s, including the Saturn family. He was a principal in devising Skylab, as well as concepts for manned Mars missions and interplanetary space travel. He was a key member in finalizing the Space Shuttle program.
